Arden is an eight form entry mixed comprehensive school. In September 2008 it was re-designated as an 11-18 school. It is a High Performing Specialist School with specialisms in MFL and Applied Learning. Arden is also a Leadership Partner School. In the last Ofsted Inspection Arden were graded as Outstanding for the fourth consecutive time. It was as an outstanding school that Arden became an Academy on 1 October 2010.

MISSION STATEMENT
Arden’s aim is to be a centre of excellence, not only in terms of academic standards but also in the whole range of the school’s curricular and extra-curricular work. In so doing we attach a great importance to the highest standards of personal and interpersonal behaviour, dress and work standards. We believe that Arden should offer the widest breadth of challenge and opportunity and that we should pride ourselves in being a friendly, welcoming, popular community school.

SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Arden has a reputation as a school with very high academic standards. These standards are prized but are only part of a breadth and variety of provision which we desire for the School's pupils and parents. Links with industry, school sport, outdoor pursuits, music and drama, the House system, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and other club activities, are central to our intention to run a busy and energetic school, developing the full range of interests and talents that youngsters have. We also wish for Arden School to be, at its heart, a caring school; a school where the pupils care about their relationships with fellow pupils and staff and a school, in turn, where the staff exercise the highest standards of professional care and concern for all pupils. It is also our aim that Arden is a school which, as a whole, cares about its wider relations with parents, governors, LEA, the community which it serves and beyond. In turn, we trust that these groups and the local community as a whole will care deeply about their school.

LOCATION AND CATCHMENT AREA
Arden mainly serves an area of mainly owner-occupied housing in Knowle, Dorridge and Bentley Heath. There are four principal contributory Primary schools: Bentley Heath C of E (Controlled) Junior and Infant School; Dorridge Junior School; Knowle C of E (Controlled) Junior School and St George and St Teresa Catholic School. Close and positive relationships are maintained with each of them.

GENERAL
GCSE examination courses are taken by all pupils. Results are excellent. For the last four years 100% of the pupils obtained 5 or more `C' grades or above and this year 91% of students achieved 5A*-C including English and Maths. Arden Sixth Form received its first official A Level results with 92% A*/A grades and 85% of pupils gaining Grade A*-C.
Homework is an integral part of the work of all pupils. There is regular reporting to parents. Effective liaison is seen to be key. A flourishing and energetic Parent/Teacher Association, highly valued by the school and the community, organises well-supported social events and raises funds.
Pastoral care and progress in learning is based on a structure involving Form Tutors, Year Heads, Heads of Key Stages, Vice-Principals and Principal. We also have an academic mentoring work programme when staff talk to small groups of pupils to review progress, set targets and action points. In addition, there is an active, 'vertically' organised House system, to provide a vehicle for extra curricular activities and a structure to support our rewards system.
All pupils are expected to wear school uniform. There is firm but fair discipline, based on encouragement and support wherever possible, with a clear range of rewards and sanctions.
The school arranges many visits, at home and abroad, to enhance its work within the curriculum. Other extra-curricular activities include a vigorous and successful sporting programme; a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Music and Drama, etc. In addition to an active Youth Club, an Adult Education Centre, under its own Centre Head, uses the buildings for two evenings a week and offers a wide range of courses. The school is also a LEA Music Centre.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES/ANTI RACISM
“The school is committed to Equal Opportunities for all persons within the structure and activities of Arden School”. (Equal Opportunities Policy)
“Arden School seeks to eliminate racial discrimination and to promote equal opportunities and good race relations in all areas of school life. We value diversity and treat every member of the school as an individual”. (Race Equality Policy)
